SUPs become a formal DW class, with one significant amendment

After the success of the trial SUP class in the 2025 ThruDark Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race, the class has now been formally added to the race for 2026.

Patrick McCormack and Emily King were the first two SUP paddlers to take part in the SUP class in 2025, with both paddlers completing all four days of the race. And given the fact that both paddlers completed the race and with strong times, the class has been permanently added from next year’s race onwards, albeit with one amendment.

For 2025, SUP paddlers were required to use hardshell boards only, but after further consultations with several parties, the Devizes to Westminster Organisation Ltd committee has decided to allow SUP paddlers to use inflatable racing SUPS during the race.

In order to be eligible for the DW, all SUP boards - either rigid or inflatable - will need to include a fixed fin or fins, and need to be a minimum length of 12ft 6 inch, and a maximum length of 14ft.

The 2026 ThruDark Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race will take place on April 3-6, 2026. More information including entry prices and timings will be released soon.
